Nacon Acquires Cricket 19 Developers Big Ant Studios in a $54.8 Million Deal

Nacon, a video game company based in France have acquired the indie developers Big Ant Studios in a deal worth $54.8 million.

Big Ant Studios, founded in 2001 are an indie video game company based in Australia have been developing games about major sports like Rugby, Cricket and Tennis. Nacon see this acquisition as an opportunity to become the world’s leading player for rugby, tennis and cricket video games.

There’s no hiding to the fact that cricket is considered the second most popular team sport in the world, with 120 million players and 1.5 billion fans. Big Ant’s integration into Nacon will give the publisher a stronger presence in the Asia-Pacific region and massively boost its efforts in the sports simulation genre, especially Cricket.

The Board of Directors of Nacon approved the completion of this transaction and will reconvene at the time of the final closing of the transaction.

So what does this acquisition mean for the fans? Well, Big Ant are in a much better position now than they were previously, with a good tech stack and solid licenses which will only expand after this acquisition so it has to be a good news for the fans as well!

They definitely will have a vastly bigger budget and one obvious area of expansion would be with their Cricket titles. Big Ant franchise still do not have a license for Indian domestic trophies – Ranji Trophy and Indian Premier League but having been acquired by Nacon it will definitely help them bolster the talks about the same.
